One summer, one weekend, a village as full as it used to be. We are organising the great homecoming of the Illoraesi scattered across Sardinia, Italy and the world. Tell us you are in.

Why

The village is emptying. But there are many of us.

Fewer than eight hundred people still live in Illorai. The Illoraesi living elsewhere, from Olbia to Toronto, are far more. Every festival we hold, we hold it fearing it may be the last. Then summer comes, the houses reopen, the square fills up, and for a few days the village is itself again. We want that summer, once, to happen all together, on the same weekend.

Those who left
Parents, children, grandchildren. Those who left in the sixties and those who left last year. All with a piece of Illorai in their pocket.
Those who stayed
Those who keep the churches, the festivals and the houses open. Those who wait for August to see the same faces again.
Those who have never been
The children and grandchildren born far away, who know Illorai only through stories. This time they see it.

The event

A summer weekend, everyone home

Between June and August 2027. We will pick the exact date together: in the form you tell us when you could come back, and we organise around you. These are the ideas on the table.

The long table
A long lunch, everyone at the same table, in the village or up in the mountains, with the dishes Illorai has always cooked.
The photo of us all
A photograph of all of us together, with the names written on the back, to keep in every home.
Su sero
Tenores, traditional dances and accordion in the square until late, like the festivals of old.
The places
Luche, Jscuvudè, Molia: the village's places reopened to those who have not seen them in years and to those who never have.

The voices

Every month a call, a life

Before we even meet, we want to listen to each other. Every month we call one Illoraese somewhere in the world and ask them to tell their life: when they left, what they found, what they miss, what they would say to the village. We turn it into a story and send it to the whole community, Illoraesi and not.

A phone or video call of half an hour, whenever suits you. We write, you read and approve. In the form you just tick the box.
